i find it hard to believe that someone is stupid enough to dump gasoline into a toilet bowl

Hmm... I wonder how true that article is since gasoline does evaporate. It will also evenly spread itself over water resulting in a thin layer.

I've thrown gasoline into a barbecue and it didn't do much.

yes gasoline does evaporate...into fumes/vapors.

when I was working in the ER, we had a guy come in who burned half of his body. Was working on his dirt bikes and got some gas on his pant leg. Left it like that the whole day. Fumes/vapors spread and stayed on his clothes. Lit up a cigarette and his clothes caught on fire. he came in naked just covering his penis with burned skin hanging off the right side of his body. charred human flesh doesnt smell very nice. his brother was witness to everything and told me.
